Watch: Es gibt ihn, den absolut schlechten Zeitpunkt für ein Coming out

Schon bei Kevin Spacey hatten wir nur Kopfschütteln übrig für dessen Coming out, und nun folgt ihm auch noch John Weaver. Der Politiker ist verheiratet - mit einer Frau, hat zwei Kinder und er ist Mitbegründer des Lincoln Projects, einer Gruppe von Republikanern, welche sich vehement gegen Donald Trump wehren. Nun kamen Anschuldigungen an die Öffentlichkeit, wonach Weaver unangebrachte Sex-Nachrichten an andere Männer schrieb, und was macht der Gute... Er hat sein Coming out.

In einer Stellungnahme erklärt John Weaver: "For too long I have tried to live a life that wasn’t completely true, where I cleaved off an important part of myself in order to maintain what I thought was happiness and normalcy in the other part. I was lying to myself, to my family who gave me nothing but unconditional love, and to others, causing a great deal of pain to all. The truth is that I’m gay. And that I have a wife and two kids who I love. My inability to reconcile those two truths has led to this agonizing place. To the men I made uncomfortable through my messages that I viewed as consensual mutual conversations at the time: I am truly sorry. They were inappropriate and it was because of my failings that this discomfort was brought on you."

Die Anschuldigungen kamen über die vergangenen Tage an die Öffentlichkeit. Dabei soll Weaver den Männern offenbar sexuell anzügliche Nachrichten geschrieben haben, teils in Verbindung mit Jobangeboten oder der Chance einer politischen Karriere.

Das Lincoln Project stellte sich von Anfang an gegen Donald Trumps politische Karriere und kritisierte den Präsidenten selbst während dem Wahlkampf jeweils scharf - und dies, obwohl Trump selber Republikaner ist, wie die Mitglieder dieser Organisation.
